New Legislation for Data-Security Being Discussed

A house lawmaker panel is discussing a new bill intended to quell security breaches on the internet. The bill would require all companies to rapidly notify officials and any affected customers.

If passed, companies would have 48 hours in which to notify authorities once they discover a breach in security. They would also face that same window for notifying the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and customers after securing data from further breaches. Another provision would grant the FTC limited authority over nonprofit organization data.

Over a Million Customers Compromised through Sega Website

Video game maker Sega recently announced that their database was hacked, exposing the sensitive information of over a million customers, according to a media report.

The company’s Sega Pass site was hacked, and the subjects acquired customer’s passwords, e-mail address, birth date and names.

Computer Glitch Keeps United Flights on the Ground

United Airlines was forced to cancel scheduled flights this past Friday evening following a computer crash that impacted crucial systems, including its website, reservations and flight departures.

The 5-hour blackout was fixed at about 1 a.m. Saturday, although the airline anticipates lingering logistical issues for the next few days.

The Next Generation of Personal Transport

The rigid platform and unforgiving wheels will be replaced with tilting mechanisms and no steering wheel or handlebars. It will accommodate one person and is completely electric, with a maximum speed of 12 mph and a range of just over 9 miles.
