This lone office building on their new campus is said to look like some sort of spaceship, according to CEO Steve Jobs. Apple currently houses 12,000 Cupertino area employees at its Infinite Loop headquarters, and other nearby buildings. The plan is to keep the existing facilities, but add additional space for employees.
This new building will only be four stories tall, according to Jobs, but is intended to hold 12,000 employees. Jobs says that although that seems a bit odd, it is necessary for Apple to keep up with growth.
The property was initially sold to Apple by Hewlett-Packard, who was looking to downsize. Jobs states that the purchase of this land has extra significance, since Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the founders of HP, gave him a part-time job in the summer of 1969.
