New Contract Helps Hillsborough County Continue to Provide its Residents with Safe, Sustainable and a Free Way to Recycle Computers and Electronics
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Florida (September 2016) – Southeastern Data has been awarded a contract with Hillsborough County to become its sole residential computer and electronics recycler. The Hillsborough County board approved the agreement in the beginning of August.
|The County has long made it a mission to keep its residents safe by offering year-round electronics recycling and household hazardous waste disposal. However, recent shifts in the industry forced many recycling and computer companies to close locations or no longer offer services. This shift required the County to search for a partner to continue its computer and electronics recycling program.|
An average of 1,500 computers, laptops, TVs, and other electronics are collected from approximately 1,250 residents monthly. Of those electronics, more than 25,000 pounds per month are processed and prepared for recycling.
"This partnership between our company and Hillsborough County enhances the County’s ability to deliver on its commitment to sustainability by increasing the recycling of consumer electronics and driving sustainable practices,” said Michael Stubblebine, president of Southeastern Data.
Leading the Way in the Community, Providing Safe Computers & Electronics Recycling
Hillsborough County has long committed to its recycling efforts by establishing five Community Collection Centers for residents in Hillsborough County and organizing an interlocal agreement to accept items from residents in the cities of Temple Terrace and Tampa. Residents are invited to drop off their outdated, working, or non-working household electronics for recycling Monday through Saturday at no cost. For more information on locations, hours, accepted items, and volume limits, visit the Hillsborough County website at HCFLGov.net/SolidWaste.
